BENJAMIN
HEWAT-CRAW

BARITONE

"Benjamin possesses a flexible, richly coloured baritone voice as well as exemplary clear diction"

Rheinische Post

INTRODUCTION

From Dorset to Deutschland

Having been told a move to Germany would be “too risky” and “too early in his career”, British baritone Benjamin Hewat-Craw defied convention and moved from Dorset to Deutschland at the age of 22 and has been living and working as a freelance musician in Cologne for the past eight years. Benjamin is equally at home in all three genres of classical singing: Art Song, Oratorio and Opera. The English-born singer has released two critically-acclaimed albums which have been nominated four times for an OPUS Klassik prize. His specialisation in Art Song has taken him to venues such as Beethoven House in Bonn, the Cologne Philharmonie and Düsseldorf Tonhalle and has allowed him to work with collaborative pianists such as Michael Gees and Yuhao Guo. As an oratorio soloist, he has performed Bach and Mendelssohn's major works in Cologne Cathedral and Handel's Messiah in Bamberg Cathedral. As an operatic soloist, Benjamin has worked with the National Opera in Prague, Theater Bonn, Aalto Theater Essen and Staatstheater Mainz. Benjamin has also reached the final of the international song competition DAS LIED in Heidelberg in 2023.
